Last night was the commencement of the Karamu Holden SUPER 8 Championship round and the teams battle it out to try and make the Grand Final.
TOKI INC. MANA v ALL IN TREMAINS ELUSIVE
Newly promoted and SUPER 8 debutants Toki Mana, who had the daunting task of going up against the 2019 Shield Champions All In Tremains Elusive.
It was a tough start for them but they rallied and won the 2nd quarter 13-10, which should give them great confidence as they go into a very important game against Havelock North next week. The final score 69-43, in favour of All In, with SUPER 8 top scorer Pania Rowe adding another impressive 42 Goals to her tally for the season.
HAVELOCK NORTH HOUSE OF TRAVEL KAURI v HASTINGS HIGH SCHOOL OLD GIRLS PROACTIVE HUIA
HHSOG Huia were led by an inspirational performance from captain Judy Brown shooting 100% accuracy for the team during the full 60-minute, slotting in 38 goals helping the team to a 52-42 win over Havelock North House of Travel Kauri.
OUTKAST OPTIMISE PHYSIO v CENTRAL SPORTS VET SERVICES
We had Central Sports take on Outkast, who finished next to each other in the middle of the table at the end of the last round, so it was sure to be a tight game. Central, without top shooter Kirby Beach, made a great start to the game and managed to maintain a slender lead all the way to the 3rd quarter. But Outkast were always in touch throughout and the introduction of Goal Shoot Rakei Sa’ena really tipped the scales in Outkast’s favour as they stepped it up and took the game 39-33.
OTANE THIRSTY WHALE v NAPIER GIRLS’ HS
Otane Thirsty Whale were up against Napier Girls High School, who competed against each other in last years Grand Final.
It was evenly matched but Otane just had the edge throughout and pulled ahead by 6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. But the young girls from Napier Girls’ stood up and went hard after the ball to try and pull it back and it eventually their endeavor payed off, as they scored the last four goals to tie it level at 44-44, cheered on by a loud support in the crowd.
NGHS completed the comeback with 10 seconds on the clock and their own centre pass, to try and sore a winner, which would have raised the roof. The Mid-court just tried to force the issue a little bit too early and Amanda Godinet intercepted to effectively save the game for Otane.
